About Us
The Pissy Bishop website is a rebuttal to fundamentalists
of many stripes (though, most notably, Christians) who have attempted
to wield political pressure to establish a theocracy in the United States.
Despite much empirical and historical data recommending otherwise, there remains religious institutional insistence on ignoring that most seminal concept in free society, that of the separation of church and state. Given the bankrupt intellectual position posed by religious endorsement, coupled with the need for rational people everythere to wrestle unimpeded with solutions to the world's problems, this wrongheadedness must be met with stern, critical assessment and rejection. The Pissy Bishop is happy to play some small role in marginalizing those who would engage in egregious persecution of scientific, heretical free thought.
Ultimately, our salvation lies in research and development, not prayer.
institution did not exist in that region, at that time. H'mmm.
Whose Mythology?
What does the biblical new
testament share in common with other religions extant in the Levant at that time (circa 2nd century CE)? Why, nearly all the
critical components, as it turns out. From the "suffering righteous hero", to the virgin birth, eternal heaven and hell,
celestial harkenings to apocalyptic forebodings -- all of these elements have nearly exact antecedents in Greek or Egyptian
mythology which were well established in the region at that time. You know how to attract converts? Ask them their favorite
religious memes and then incorporate them into a new dogmatic "package."
As for the biblical old testament, there
is an apocryphal creation story, the religiously ubiquitous flood rehash, planetary oddities, ghostly apparitions, fun with numbers
and ages and general ignorance of vetted scientific processes -- begging the question: if this is inspired authorship, even
if intended metaphorically, what backwoods rube directed the incorporation of the various legendary components?
